Exercises To Try

Good health is important today and it obviously begins with a proper diet, however without a regular exercise routine you are missing out on one of the essential ingredients to a healthy lifestyle. If exercise is not your cup of tea, there is no need to worry; because, today there are several different options for fitness activity. Obviously, many people choose to participate in the traditional methods of aerobic exercise and weight lifting; however, there are other options. Some of the more popular nontraditional exercises include barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, pilates, and tai chi, all of which offer a variety to your workout and may prove to offer added health benefits that other exercise options lack.

The traditional workouts are often hard on a person’s body, especially as we get older. For example, aerobic exercise can be difficult on our bones and joints because it can cause stress to your body. Also, strength training is often easier for those who are younger and it gets more difficult as you age. Lastly, many of the traditional workouts are not as healing for our bodies, and although they may be healthy, they can induce injury.

There are many people today who have switched from the traditional exercise roles to the alternative methods, hoping to find something that will be lower impact on there body but at the same time generate results. One of the plus sides of these workouts is that they do not usually cause the same amount of stress to the body, yet they are still a great output for exercise. Today, the most popular types of nontraditional fitness methods include barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, and pilates.

A relatively newer alternative form of exercise is known as the barre workout, and it is a wonderful option for those who are looking to condition their muscles without having to lift weights. When you participate in a barre workout, you will stand in front on a mirror and use a bar, much like a traditional ballerina. There are actually several different poses and even classes that you can participate in all of which will help you improve your strength. Consider trying it today, and you may join the many that have begun to favor this type of workout.

If the barre workout is not your style, you might be interested in Yamuna ball rolling (YBR) – a form of exercise that integrates 6 and 10 inch balls. Unlike most ball exercises, the YBR seems to be unique in its ability to focus on your unique needs and target areas, working with your body type to achieve the best results. When you participate in YBR, you are basically getting a hands on practitioner at your service because the workout is geared to stretch out needed muscles. The result for many is better flexibility, elongated muscles, and a leaner figure.

One of the most popular nontraditional exercises, Yoga, originated from India; and, the practice is now common throughout the world. Even though many people today participate in yoga because it is another form of exercise available, yoga is also a form of meditation and it is great for mental health and physical health. Typical yogis today will take a yoga class, which provides students with a set of asanas (poses) that are combined with breathing. Additionally, there are a variety of forms of yoga today that you can participate in, but the most common is typically hatha yoga.

Pilates is probably the trendiest of the nontraditional forms of exercise and it has definitely increased in popularity over the last few years. The fitness technique combines different aspects from yoga and aerobics giving it a unique newer feel that definitely fits in with the modern culture. When you participate in pilates, the focus is always on your center or core movements and breathing exercises are usually involved. You will find that every pose or exercise you do during a pilates session usually relates back to the core.

Lastly, a great option for exercise today comes from China called tai chi, and the great thing about tai chi is the activity actually provides many health benefits. A tai chi class consists of a flow of poses that continue on interrupted. However, everyone can participate at their own pace and speed; therefore, it is noncompetitive, and all ages and fitness levels are welcome. For those who do attend regular tai chi classes, research shows stress decreases, flexibility increases, strength increases, energy increases, and your mood improves.

If you are tired of hitting the treadmill everyday or the weight room, one of these alternative forms of exercise might be for you. Many people participate and enjoy them everyday. In addition, one of the best benefits to these alternative forms of exercise is that they provide increased mental strength that is sometimes not offered when you are just going to the gym.
